Our Q2 #MobileBanker Scorecard saw increased mobile #security measures to mitigate risks for consumers. While all the banks enable locking and unlocking debit cards on the mobile app, 30% offer options to lock specific types of card transactions. https://loom.ly/hVA82r0

When delivering a successful banking application at a scale, like the Chase Mobile App, you have to frequently publish a reliable and updated platform at a speed that exceeds demand. No big deal, right? Well, considering the Chase Mobile App is used by over 54 million users with over 20 mobile logins per user, per month - that’s definitely a big deal!As banking practices continue to evolve, our Chase Mobile App team has successfully adapted to meet our customers’ changing needs. How did we do it? We’ve integrated and operationalized new release processes, increasing our publishing cadence. This increased speed has enabled us to release updates every two weeks. To learn more about this evolution, check out this Next at Chase blog written by my colleague, Cedric Beust, PhD. #banking #mobile #digitaltechnology

"What makes a good mobile app" is a question that sounds simple on the surface but is complex the more you dig. Here are my main takeaways:-A bank's mobile app won't make or break its relationship with customers. But the quality of the app influences whether the customer will trust this financial institution and, in turn, how deep that relationship will run. Customers, especially those under 40, typically use multiple banks. A better mobile app can be one factor that tugs them toward one over another-You would think banks have nailed "core transactional needs" like checking a balance and depositing a check, but customer satisfaction with these experiences is on the decline (via Jennifer White)-Certain elements have gone from mildly important to vital in a few years. Those include P2P payments, granular transaction data, and diverse card management capabilities (via Peter Wannemacher)-Handy features like a meter or checklist visualizing a customer's security settings make a difference. But so do the little things, like clear rates and fees that are easy to find rather than being buried in a PDF (via Susan Foulds)

“Why do you like the Wells Fargo mobile app so much?”“𝐼 𝑑𝑜𝑛’𝑡 𝑘𝑛𝑜𝑤, 𝑖𝑡 𝑗𝑢𝑠𝑡 𝑙𝑜𝑜𝑘𝑠 𝑎𝑛𝑑 ‘𝑓𝑒𝑒𝑙𝑠’ 𝑛𝑖𝑐𝑒.”The truth is... I didn’t REALLY know why.But as part of my personal experiment with my favorite mobile banking apps…(In which I’ll only keep 2 out of a total 3 based on my preferences and needs)…Now I know. Here’s 3 reasons why I LOVE the Wells Fargo mobile app experience.𝟏. 𝐓𝐡𝐞 𝐔𝐈 𝐢𝐬 𝐜𝐥𝐞𝐚𝐧 - 𝐞𝐬𝐩𝐞𝐜𝐢𝐚𝐥𝐥𝐲 𝐭𝐡𝐞 “𝐇𝐨𝐦𝐞” 𝐬𝐜𝐫𝐞𝐞𝐧.I check my banking apps nearly every day.And unlike other apps that pack their ‘home’ screen with as much content as possible…Perhaps hoping that users will eventually come across what they’re looking for…The Wells Fargo app only has ‘essential’ components here, in my opinion. For instance, everything I see on the “Home” screen are my open accounts, a CTA to open a new account, 3 small cards for unique features, and a “Wells Fargo Deals” collapsible carousel (screenshot attached).Nothing else. It’s elegant and SUPER clean. And as result, scrolling on this screen doesn’t feel forced or overwhelming, which I really appreciate about this experience.(How many times have you seen a mobile app that has SO much content on a single scrollable list that it’s nerve racking? 😅 )𝟐. 𝐍𝐚𝐯𝐢𝐠𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧 𝐢𝐬 𝐢𝐧𝐭𝐮𝐢𝐭𝐢𝐯𝐞.I think that a clean UI only works when the app’s navigation is intuitive.Otherwise, what would be the point of having a ‘clean look’ if you can’t find what you’re looking for? There are currently 5 total ‘navigation tabs’ at the bottom of the screen…And each is labeled in such a way that I know exactly what each one does.Super clear. These are “Accounts,” “Deposit,” “Pay & Transfer,” “Explore,” and “Menu.”By simply reading these labels… would you ever NOT know where to navigate to?Exactly.𝟑. 𝐓𝐡𝐞 𝐞𝐱𝐩𝐞𝐫𝐢𝐞𝐧𝐜𝐞 𝐢𝐬 𝐮𝐧𝐢𝐧𝐭𝐞𝐫𝐫𝐮𝐩𝐭𝐞𝐝.Has your mobile experience ever been interrupted repeatedly by some annoying feature?Maybe it’s a constant “Rate us on the stores” dialogue every uneven session…Maybe it’s having to log in again and again…. and again.Or an informative banner that doesn’t go away no matter how many times you X out of it.Those are not fun, right?Well, I’ve NEVER seen any of these with the Wells Fargo mobile app.And this is why I’ve always been a fan of the Wells Fargo mobile app experience. What about you? What has your experience been with the Wells Fargo mobile app? Let me know your thoughts!
