Expanding on the saga while leaving plenty of room for callbacks to the original, this series-length sequel should satisfy fans who've been patiently waiting for more Willow.

Rebecca Long Observer The Disney+ Willow series was a breath of fresh air, harkening back to a bygone era of onscreen epic fantasy more focused on being delightful than profound. Rated: B May 17, 2023 Full Review Nick Schager The Daily Beast Sustained interest, however, will be stymied by a cast of largely bland new characters and, more pressing still, a dearth of sweeping excitement. Jan 30, 2023 Full Review Heather Hogan Autostraddle Willow gives us the lesbian Disney princess we've been waiting for, Jan 13, 2023 Full Review Joonatan Itkonen Toisto.net The series knows its capacity for greatness. It’s tapping into it that proves most difficult. In turn, its lessons, some carried over from the past, feel more timeless than ever. Rated: 4/5 Jul 3, 2024 Full Review Pramit Chatterjee Digital Mafia Talkies There is a kind of simplicity, a sense of comfort, and an air of whimsy to the show that puts it right in the middle of the Shakespearean self-seriousness of The Rings of Power and the edgy self-seriousness of House of the Dragon. Rated: 4/5 Jul 20, 2023 Full Review Erin Maxwell LA Weekly/Village Voice Willow’s fantasy realm is filled with disproportionate contemporary sensibilities and inconsistent rules, and its Spotify ’80s hits playlist only makes things worse. Ultimately, the heart of the original movie is missing. Feb 23, 2023 Full Review Read all reviews
Audience Member I'm in it.😗 Rated 2.5/5 Stars •Rated 2.5 out of 5 stars07/04/24 Full Review Jedediah G If you are a fan of the 1988 Willow or the books, stay away from this remake tv/Disney+ series. Somehow the writers manage to take an entertaining 80s sword and sorcery romp, and remake it into the blandest, most badly written dreck I have watched until now. Starting to really be a trend with Disney, which is something I never thought I would see from the Mouse. Not a single character I can point out, let alone name besides Willow. None of the new actors can act or seem bored/phoning it in. David Warwick sadly has not improved, and dumps some of the most monotone, massive exposition dumps ever. Ugh, who hired these writers? This is like Storytelling 101. I've seen better fan fiction. All the drama over the "first lesbian Disney princess" seems vastly over-hyped to cover up the show's shortcomings. Showrunners should have spent more time working on the script and show. The glaring errors and lack of attention to detail really shows. Rated 0.5/5 Stars •Rated 0.5 out of 5 stars07/03/24 Full Review Michael G There was potential for a good show, but the story developed too slowly and the characters were not likable for too many episodes. Rated 3/5 Stars •Rated 3 out of 5 stars06/14/24 Full Review Patrick S This was a huge letdown. I looked forward to this, and quit after 2 episodes. 0 out of 10, I can see why this show vanished... Rated 0.5/5 Stars •Rated 0.5 out of 5 stars06/14/24 Full Review Audience Member I like the movie. The TV show is terrible. I cant see how it scores so high with the critics, it get me wondering why... Rated 1/5 Stars •Rated 1 out of 5 stars06/22/24 Full Review T S I tried watching this series. They made it again not about the story of willow but another story the one no one wants to pay money to see. Rated 0.5/5 Stars •Rated 0.5 out of 5 stars06/08/24 Full Review Read all reviews

The Disney+ Willow series was a breath of fresh air, harkening back to a bygone era of onscreen epic fantasy more focused on being delightful than profound.
'Willow' Will Not Return for Season 2 at Disney+ - IMDb. The “Willow” TV series is done after just one season at Disney+, Variety has confirmed. The news comes around two months after the high fantasy series aired its eighth and final episode, with the show having debuted in November 2022 and airing until January 2023.
Disney canceled the television series after only one eight-episode season, and then it pulled the show off of Disney+ entirely for cost-cutting measures.
The show's tone felt directed at a teenage demographic that doesn't exist—but fits squarely outside the demographic most interested in this kind of fantasy: Kids and their parents. There's a way to craft a story that appeals to younger kids and their parents and the blueprint is the Willow film.
Watching the movie first is not strictly necessary but greatly enhances the viewing experience. Like the series, the film is available on Disney+, so if you've got the show turned on, why not head over before and first experience the magic of Willow from 1988?
How does Willow actually end? While this fight is the climax of Willow's story for the season, the show doesn't end there. Instead, they mourn Graydon and acknowledge that the fight is far from over. They know that the Wyrm is still amassing their forces and that they'll have to be prepared for more fighting to come.
Disney removed the original series from its streaming service in May. The eight-episode first season premiered November 30, 2022 and concluded on January 11, 2023.
The majority of filming took place in Dinorwic quarry in Wales with some at Elstree Studios in Hertfordshire, as well as a small section in New Zealand. Industrial Light & Magic created the visual effects sequences, which led to a revolutionary breakthrough with digital morphing technology.

EXCLUSIVE: There will be no second season of Willow, Disney+'s live-action original series based on the 1988 fantasy film directed by Ron Howard. The news comes two months after the eight-episode first season of the show, which served as a sequel to the classic movie, ended its run on the streaming platform.

"Whether you're a fan of the '80s movie or not, the new Willow is a slick and entertaining blend of swordplay and wordplay that conjures up some of the old magic," CNET's Rich Knightwell writes in his review. The show kicked off Nov. 30, with the 8th and final episode coming Jan.11.
